Cultivated in the lush hills of Pinglin, New Taipei, Jasmine Pouchong is one of Taiwan’s most historic and delicate lightly oxidized oolong teas. Grown using ecological farming practices, this tea reflects the harmony between Taiwan’s natural environment and traditional craftsmanship.

Nestled among misty valleys and surrounded by subtropical forests, the Pinglin region offers the ideal microclimate for slow leaf growth and deep aromatic development. The leaves are hand-picked and carefully withered under natural sunlight, resulting in a tea that bridges the freshness of green tea with the complexity of oolong.

Jasmine-scented Baozhong Tea – What is scenting (窨花)?

A traditional high-end method used for premium scented teas. Fresh jasmine flowers are layered with tea leaves so the tea absorbs the natural aroma.

Typical process:

  1. Jasmine buds are picked in the evening
  2. Mixed and layered with tea leaves
  3. Flowers bloom at night and release fragrance
  4. Flowers are removed in the morning
  5. The process is repeated multiple times

This allows the fragrance to infuse into the tea leaves, not artificial flavoring. That’s why it is more premium than regular jasmine tea.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Jasmine first, followed by orchid and gardenia notes

  • Flavor: Floral, sweet, smooth, lingering finish

  • Mouthfeel: Very little bitterness or astringency

  • Aftertaste: long aftertaste in the throat

Brewing Guidelines

  • Tea amount: 5g
  • Water temperature: 90 – 95 °C
  • Water volume: 100 ml
  • Steeping time: 40 seconds for the first infusion, 50 seconds for the second, then gradually adjust 10 secs for 6-8 infusions

Tea / water ratio 1:75, 90°C, brew for 5 mins
